The Wii Fit is what brought the Wii on the map. Wii Sports is very cool but this is really a revolutionary game and the killer Wii app. In fact, Wii Fit’s creators hope that Wii Fit will open the door to a whole new group of gamers - those who never really played video games before.
So how does it work? The games revolve around using the Wii Fit Balance Board. You stand on the Balance Board, and Wii Fit can carry out your body test (you also assign yourself a Mii avatar, which is basically a digitalized version of you!) The body test tells you your weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), Balance, Wii Fit Age (see below), and level of Body Control. Once you baseline these things, Wii Fit will track your progress over time.
Wii Fit involves four types of training: Yoga, Balance Games, Strength Training, and Aerobics. Yoga involves doing several poses and deep breathing. Balance Games improve your balance for things such as heading a soccerball, skiing slalom, etc. Strength Training works on strengthening the core (abdominals), legs, and arms through exercises such as jack-knife situps, plank, torso twists, and leg lunges. Finally, Aerobics involves step aerobics routines, hula hoop, and even running! While running, you put the Wii controller in your pocket and it tracks your steps.
While using Wii Fit, you will see your Mii avatar on the screen doing the exercises as you are doing them. This is way more fun and better than a mirror! As well as the games mentioned above, there are plenty more games to be released. These will be available as an add-on to your Wii Fit package.
